You will only get an upgrade to the next class. No going from economy straight to business. Also you will normally have to have a full fare ticket to be eligible to upgrade.
Some airlines might propose an upgrade a few days in advance.
The most risky is trying for an upgrade at the airport but I think it offers the best price option. Busy routes at a busy time and you’ll rarely get the chance to buy a moderately priced upgrade. So be prepared to accept the seat you paid for as generally that’s what is likely to happen.
Breaking the flight into two parts is always going to be a tiring way to get there over a direct flight so the benefits of the savings might make the whole experience a waste of time.

  3. Proof that even Canadians fall into that common Socal-originated mispronunciation of saying, “shtraight”, instead of “straight”.

  4. I fly to Europe twice a year to work remote for 4-6 weeks at a time. I am totally on my own dime. My company pays nothing for me to go there. Sure, if I was rich I would definitely fly business class or first class. But here’s my question. Why would someone pay so much more for business class than Economy for just 10-12 hours. The difference between Economy and even a good deal on business class will pay for an entire month of AirBnb or hotel costs for me. I always get an aisle seat so I can get up and walk around and stretch my legs whenever I want to and I don’t have to worry about bothering someone. I mean, people go to work and sit at a desk for 9 hours a day. But they get on a plane and what, they have to lay down for 9 hours ? I’m not saying I enjoy economy, it’s just that I can spend a month in a eastern European city like Prague or Budapest for about $2500 for both lodging and my roundtrip flight in economy. But you can easily spend $2500 on business class for a one way ticket.

  5. If the airline makes a mistake in pricing a $3000 ticket has $300, their just gonna cancel it or move you onto another flight, I heard some people even get downgraded at check in
